Who We Are at Petroglyph Animal Hospital

Petroglyph Animal Hospital is a full-service, AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital that has served Albuquerque pet owners since 1995, offering emergency and wellness care to cats and dogs seven days a week.

What started as a three-doctor practice over 25 years ago has grown under the same ownership ever since, while staying deeply rooted in the Albuquerque community. We’re open 364 days a year, with highly trained staff on the premises 24 hours a day.

Our hospital is equipped with a full surgery suite, in-house radiography and laboratory services, and a complete range of dental tools and digital radiography. In 2019, we added a High-Definition CT Scanner, giving us the ability to perform advanced imaging diagnostics right here in Albuquerque.

Our culture is built on teamwork, mentorship, and respect for each other, our clients, and our patients. That commitment to excellence is why we’ve proudly held AAHA accreditation since 2013.

Petroglyph Animal Hospital is proud to call Northwest Albuquerque home, but our care reaches well beyond our neighborhood. Pet owners from across the city trust us for everyday wellness visits, urgent care, and advanced diagnostics.

We also welcome families from Rio Rancho, Corrales, Bernalillo, and Los Lunas who travel to us for specialized services like CT imaging, surgery, and internal medicine. No matter where you’re coming from, our team is here to give your pet the same high standard of care.

Our Owners

Raymond Hudgell DVM

Born in England, where he attended school and university, Dr. Hudgell moved to Albuquerque in 1989. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1994. Dr. Hudgell has retired from seeing patients but remains active in overseeing the practice, helping to mentor the junior veterinarians in surgery and anything else they have questions about.

Michael Melloy DVM

Born and raised in Albuquerque, where he chased reptiles as a child, Dr. Melloy graduated from St. Pius X High School. He studied wildlife biology at New Mexico State University and biology at the University of New Mexico before his veterinary studies at Colorado State University. He graduated as a DVM in 1993. Dr. Melloy has retired from seeing patients but remains active in overseeing the practice.
